Hen the idea of a roof garden at reading international solidarity centre risc began to take shape in 2001 it was a practical response to the problem of a leaking roof and how to provide sound and heat insulation for a conference hall which doubled as a venue for noisy events.

The garden was developed using permaculture design principles and has maturedinto a stunning example of what is possible using these techniques.
Risc has further developed since then including planting a permaculture roof garden in 2002 which adds to the spectrum of our educational activities and is the inspiration for some exciting local national and international projects.
